Battambang Cycling
Activities: Cycling (60km) and bamboo train riding
Breakfast at the hotel.
Today, we have an exciting 60km bike ride planned in Battambang, where we will visit two fascinating locations: Phnom Banon and Ang Kam Ping Puoy. Our journey begins with a bike ride from the hotel through small villages along the back roads to Phnom Banon. Along the way, we will take the opportunity to visit local families, learning about their daily lives, family history, and traditions. At Phnom Banon, after climbing over 350 steps, we will be rewarded with a serene setting and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The area is filled with small villages nestled among endless rice paddies and adorned with picturesque sugar palm trees.
Following this, we will descend the hill and embark on an exhilarating 30-minute Bamboo Train Ride. Afterward, we will resume our bike ride to Ang Kimping Puoy, our final destination for lunch before returning to Battambang by support vehicle. Angkor Kamping Puoy, also known as the Killing Dam, was one of the ambitious projects of the Khmer Rouge, aiming to replicate the sophisticated irrigation networks that once made Cambodia powerful during the reign of the Angkorian kings. Tragically, it is estimated that up to 10,000 Cambodians lost their lives during its construction, enduring harsh conditions and succumbing to executions, malnutrition, and disease.
We will conclude our day with a dinner at a local restaurant.
