Itinerary

Activities: Take a care-free cyclo tour around busy Hanoi and enjoy a traditional Water Puppet show before your welcome dinner.

Start your Vietnam and Cambodia in 2 Weeks with your flight to Hanoi from your town.

After collecting your luggage at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, our driver will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel for check-in. Let your Vietnam vacation begin!

Take the time to relax at your hotel or with a traditional Vietnamese coffee before our guide shows you the Old Quarter via the ancient way – by cyclo. Following this, we will enjoy a very old form of entertainment with a Water Puppet Show.

In the evening we will enjoy welcome drinks together and head back to our hotel to rest up for the night.

 Meals:  Dinner

Notes: If you arrive in Hanoi late then we will see the Water Puppet show the following day.

Activities: Take a look around the must-see sites of Hanoi and sample its world-famous street food.

The French-style boulevards and colonial architecture are a perfect match with Hanoi’s peaceful lakes and ancient Asian pagodas. Today we will experience the wonderful harmony of Vietnam’s ancient capital.

Our first stop will be the Ho Chi Minh Complex featuring Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum (closed on Monday & Friday and every day from October to November), Ho Chi Minh's charming House on Stilts, the very unique One Pillar Pagoda and the seat of government; the Presidential Palace.

Afterwards, we will head to the Temple of Literature; a magnificent wooden design with beautiful green surrounds. This is Vietnam’s oldest university at over one thousand years old and is a wonderful example of the studious energy of the Vietnamese people.

In the afternoon we have a choice between a trip to the History Museum or the Ethnology Museum. There are countless artifacts in the History Museum that preserve Vietnamese history from its ancient beginnings to its recent war-torn past, whereas the Ethnology Museum has fantastic exhibitions on the various costumes, routines and daily lives of the country’s 54 ethnic groups.

We return to Hanoi's Old Quarter afterwards to try the many delicious dishes that are sold daily as street food, while also taking the opportunity to learn how to cook and eat these delicacies like a true local.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Activities: Take a cruise around the jewel in the crown of Vietnam; Halong Bay, with its various limestone islets, secluded beaches and magnificent caves: the highlight of any Vietnam tour.

Halong Bay is always the most highlight of all Vietnam Tours or Indochina Tours. Day 3 of Vietnam and Cambodia in 2 Weeks, you will visit Halong Bay – The World Natural Heritage Site where the Kong movie was filmed.

8.00 AM: Our driver and guide will collect you from your hotel in Hanoi and take you to the expansive Halong Bay. It’s a three and a half hour drive across the mountainous rural areas of North Vietnam and you will have several opportunities to see farmers hard at work as they till paddy fields along the Red River Delta.

Halong Bay is a feature on many distinguished lists, including by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site and an official Wonder of Nature as decided by the New 7 Wonders Foundation. Our tour will involve an overnight stay in the beautiful bay.

Arriving at Halong City’s jetty around midday, we will be welcomed onboard our vessel. Here lunch will be served as we take our first look around the individual limestone spires that create the otherworldly atmosphere of Halong Bay. In the afternoon we will enjoy some sightseeing like visiting the cave by boat, take part in the on-board activities such as kayaking (depending on each boat’s itinerary) or simply take in the magnificent scenery of the bay from the deck. As the day draws to a close the boat will set anchor in the calm waters surrounded by vertical stone pillars and under the open sky. We will indulge in a group dinner on board in the serenity of the bay and take part in the evening’s activities; maybe a bit of squid fishing or happy hour on the top deck with our wide range of cocktails.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Activities: Continue to explore Halong Bay before heading back to Hanoi airport to catch our flight to Da Nang and our transfer to Hoi An.

Take in the pretty backdrop of Halong Bay in the morning light as you enjoy breakfast on the boat. You will have the opportunity to kayak on the tranquil waters of the bay and discover magical grottoes and caves, such as Sung Sot Cave, that are inaccessible to larger boats.

A wonderful local lunch will be your last activity on board the boat as we sail back towards the dock for ending your Halong Bay 2 day 1 night.

Our guide and driver will meet you here in order to transfer you directly to Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport for your flight to the central coastal city of Da Nang.

Your new guide will greet you in Da Nang and will head to the nearby ancient town of Hoi An. We will check you into your hotel for your overnight stay in Hoi An.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Notes: The itinerary in Halong Bay is subject to slight change depending on the cruise we choose.

Activities: Get a glimpse of local life in the Central Highlands. Take in the outstanding scenery, see the lives of local farmers and learn how to prepare delicious Xeo cakes.

08.00 AM: Our guide will present you with your bicycle and we will set off through the peaceful countryside of Vietnam; a world away from the busy happenings of the city. Just outside of Hoi An you will get a great view of the miles of rice fields and narrow streams on the way to Van Lang Village and nearby Bay Mau Forest; a series of mangrove forests, canals and coconut leaf-covered houses stretching for seven miles. Historically important for the role it played in sheltering many villagers during the war, Bay Mau Forest is now famed for the wonderfully fresh seafood available there.

Our journey to Van Lang Village will also take us past Ba Le Market, where we will stop briefly to stock up on local treats.

Upon arrival to the village, we will be welcomed in the traditional manner with a cup of green tea by a local man and his family; all of whom have been living here for the past three generations. We will take a quick stroll through the village before arriving at the river and having the chance to row a circular basket boat under the guidance of the skillful locals. We will also learn of their traditional fishing techniques and how they catch their dinner in Bay Mau Forest.

A therapeutic foot bath awaits you on return to your homestay and a masterclass in cooking will be on display as we help to prepare lunch with our local hosts. The locals here have their own take on Vietnamese classics such as Tam Huu spring rolls, Banh Xeo crispy pancakes and grilled fish in banana leaf and are more than happy to guide you through the cooking process.

We will return into town after lunch and soak in the calming rural atmosphere. You will have the afternoon at your leisure before we head back to Hoi An for the night.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Enjoy a free day in Hoi An.

Hoi An is a charming town for shopping and relaxation in Vietnam vacation. You will have a free day in your Vietnam and Cambodia in 2 Weeks

Take the day at your own pace and discover what put Hoi An on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Go shopping for tailored clothing, ancient souvenirs or simply relax on the beach in this beautiful city of lanterns.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Head to Da Nang for our flight to Ho Chi Minh City.

After catching the plane at Da Nang Airport, your new driver will pick you up in the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City. Once you are dropped at your hotel you will have free time in the old capital. Explore at your leisure and see what makes this city so different to the new capital of Hanoi.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Visit the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum. Take a look at Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Post Office.

08.00 AM: The underground tunnel system of Cu Chi awaits us south of Ho Chi Minh City. The amazing network is almost 250km in length and sheltered over 16,000 Vietcong guerrilla fighters in Vietnam War, also serving as communication routes and storage facilities for food and ammunition.

We will have lunch then return to Ho Chi Minh City for our tour of its central sites, including the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum for a conclusive look at objects left behind after the American war. We will end at the grand French building of Notre Dame Cathedral and the neighbouring Old Post Office. Relax back at your hotel and indulge in southern Vietnamese cuisine before staying overnight in the city.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Visit My Tho and get a look at local life on the water.

Day 9 of your Vietnam and Cambodia in 2 Weeks, you will visit Mekong River Delta for learning the local life of Southeast Asia.

08.30 AM: Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and today we will visit the famous Mekong Delta. The city of My Tho is one of the many cities on the Mekong and a leisurely boat trip will show you how life works out here. We will pass locals going about their daily business, as well as the magnificent Dragon Island and the natural Xep canal. At a village we will be able to see some fascinating local industries and stop at a farmer’s house to enjoy some fruit and local honey tea while listening to the traditional music of the area. Afterwards, a horse cart will take us down riverside paths to a small harbor where we will embark on a rowing boat and head for lunch by the river. We have the opportunity after lunch to try some delicious coconut candy and see how it is made. After a stop off in My Tho City, we will head back to Ho Chi Minh City for our last night in Vietnam.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Drive to Ho Chi Minh City’s airport and catch our flight to Phnom Penh, where we will do a city tour.

Our driver will collect you from your hotel 3 hours prior to your flight to Phnom Penh for starting your Cambodia Trip.

Upon arrival, we will take you and your luggage and drop you off at your hotel.

Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) is our first stop and is a harrowing reminder of the Khmer Rouge regime.

In the afternoon, we will take a trip to the Royal Palace; the current home of the Cambodian royal family with its beautiful palace grounds, where you can see the holiest Buddhist temple in the country, the Silver Pagoda.

Our last stop will be Wat Ounalom; one of the oldest Buddhist sites in Cambodia and certainly the most important. This is a good spot to learn more about Cambodia’s unique arm of Buddhism.

We will be staying overnight in Phnom Penh.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Continue our exploration of Phnom Penh and take the flight to Siem Reap.

Breakfast in your hotel will be followed by a trip to the infamous Killing Fields. Choeung Ek is Cambodia’s most well-known ‘Killing Field’, though it is just one of the many brutal genocide sites around the country that display its violent modern past.

We will continue to Psar Toul Tom Pong, the huge open market also referred to as the ‘Russian Market’ due to its popularity with Russian expats in the 1980s. Following this, we will transfer to Phnom Penh’s airport for the cross-country flight to Siem Reap. Once you’ve arrived, a driver will take you to your hotel.

In the evening you can feast on a wonderful buffet dinner while watching an Apsara Dance Show. This is a very special Khmer classical dance that will be performed by the Royal Ballet of Cambodia. Spend the rest of the evening how you want and eventually retire to your hotel for your first night in Siem Reap.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Dinner

Activities: Discover some of Cambodia’s more remote holy temples.

After breakfast, our tour guide will pick you up at around 07:00 AM and drive you through Siem Reap’s rural outskirts to the 10th-century Cambodian temple, Banteay Srei. This holy site is also called ‘The Citadel of Women’ or ‘The Citadel of Beauty’ on account of the temple’s red sandstone architecture and its striking pediments and friezes, all of which were hand-carved by women. Next is Chau Srei Vibol; a small but splendid temple atop a natural hill that is well hidden without local knowledge, good for those looking to get off the beaten track.

A local family will be preparing your lunch today. After this, we have a special opportunity to speak to the former village chief; a survivor of the Khmer Rouge regime, about his personal experiences and his people’s surviving culture.

In the afternoon, we will visit the ancient capital of Hariharalaya, the residence of the Cambodian rulers in the 9th and early 10th centuries. Here you will find the oldest temples in the Angkor area including Bakhong Temple; its main temple featuring an iconic stepped pyramid. Afterwards, we will drive you back to Siem Reap for the night.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Visit the essential sites around the Angkor Wat Complex.

Today, you will visit the most highlighted temples of Siem Reap and that will be the amazing experience of your Siem Reap trip.

Following breakfast, you will be picked up by our tour guide at around 07:00 AM and taken to the magnificent Angkor Wat. Ta Prohm is our first stop – this is an ancient Bayon temple built in between the late 12th and early 13th centuries but now in a state of ruin and overrun by jungle vines; an oddly haunting but phenomenal site. Heading deeper into the expansive Angkor Wat, we will drive past brilliant examples of ancient Angkor architecture that earned Cambodia a UNESCO World Heritage listing and have since put the country on the map. We will arrive at one of the complex’s most famous sites; the 12th century Great City of Angkor Thom, with its towers of smiling stone faces, said to resemble the face of Avalokitesvara, the Buddhist deity of infinite compassion. We will round off the tour in the afternoon with visits to Baphuon Temple, the Terrace of the Leper King, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Royal Place area, after which we will take you back to the ever-lively Siem Reap.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: See the local life at Tonle Sap Lake.

We will travel to Me Chrey Village after breakfast, where the height of the residents’ houses are dependent upon the water levels. A long-tail boat awaits us at the pier and we will embark on it to reach the nearby floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake, where locals’ daily lives involve fish farming and basket weaving. En route we will pass by village pagodas where you will have a chance to chat with monks and the local children.

You have the afternoon to yourself in Siem Reap. Take your last chance to eat the fantastic street food or buy some colourful art as a souvenir of your Cambodia and Vietnam trip.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Enjoy your final breakfast at your hotel before our driver comes to transfer you to the airport. We hope you enjoyed your Vietnam and Cambodia tour in 2 Weeks.
